Windshield Camera & Sensor Calibration Services in Victoria, BC

ADAS Calibration Services: Why It’s Mandatory with Windshield Replacements

The cameras and sensors used by Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) must be calibrated after any incident that requires a windshield replacement.

This is necessary because your front camera is moved during windshield replacement. Whenever it is moved, it must be recalibrated. If it’s even a few millimeters off, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind-spot alerts, and other ADAS safety systems might not function as intended.

All vehicle manufacturers consider recalibration of the front cameras mandatory whenever the windshield changes.

Our certified techs run diagnostics on each sensor to confirm data is being interpreted correctly. We service all makes and models and have the tools to calibrate the latest ADAS features.

What is ADAS Recalibration?

Automotive technology is constantly evolving, and windshields are no exception. Many new vehicles have a camera behind the windshield. This camera lets your vehicle emit an audio or visual warning when you are too close to another vehicle.

For example, it can alert you when you involuntarily cross a lane, if a vehicle is hidden in your blind spot, or even when you put on the brake in case of an incoming collision. These Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) are only possible because of this camera.

Recalibration means aligning ADAS cameras and sensors to provide their full range of intended safety features. The service involves adjusting the camera lens to capture an accurate and reliable image of the road and the vehicle. If the camera is misaligned by even a few degrees, the technology can be compromised, resulting in dangerous driving or accidents.

Recalibration is part of each window replacement because it ensures each one is optimized to detect objects, distances, and more. This is also first performed when your vehicle is prepared for sale.

FAQ

Does ICBC cover ADAS calibration services?

Yes, British Columbia insurance providers cover windshield calibration for vehicles with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). ICBC covers windshield replacement as part of its glass repair program, and other Canadian insurance providers have their own programs.

We are an ICBC Glass Express Shop, so we process comprehensive insurance claims from start to finish. We also work with private insurance providers to ensure our customers get hassle-free service.

Do I need to recalibrate my windshield camera after repairs?

Yes. Recalibration is necessary to ensure the safe operation of your windshield camera after a windshield replacement. Your front camera must be moved during any windshield replacement, requiring a recalibration.

If it’s even a few millimeters off, your safety systems (ADAS) might not function as intended. Our technicians are equipped with state-of-the-art technology to recalibrate your front camera and ensure the continued reliability of the advanced driver-assistance systems.

How much does ADAS calibration cost?

Recalibration costs $225 at Van Isle Glass.

How long does ADAS calibration take?

The calibration process generally takes about 30 to 45 minutes and is completed after your window replacement. The average windshield replacement required 2.5 hours, including the recalibration.

Are there signs that your windshield needs to be recalibrated?

There are several signs that your car may need an ADAS calibration. Dashboard warnings are one sign you shouldn’t ignore. If you see a proximity warning on your dashboard when nothing is around the vehicle, this may indicate a problem with your ADAS calibration.

How do I know if the preowned vehicle I plan on purchasing has been recalibrated (after the dealership installed a new windshield before I took possession)?

Ask the dealership to provide you with a recalibration report at the time of purchase. If the dealership advised that the windshield has been replaced or will be replaced but cannot provide this report, then it is very possible that a recalibration was not completed.

Van Isle Glass was amazing! They replaced my cracked windshield today—I was silly and didn’t get a chip repair sooner, so it had to be fully replaced. Booking an appt. was super easy, and they responded the next day—plus, they’re open Saturday! I expected it to take about 2.5 hours, but it was done in 2. They called me 15 minutes before my car was ready. Everyone was so friendly and professional. I trusted the reviews on Reddit, and I wasn’t disappointed. They repaired my rain sensor, which a previous shop had messed up. They also installed my wipers and tucked away my dash cam wire. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone—so glad I chose Van Isle Glass! I’ll go to them first next time I have any glass related work.
Response from the owner:Hello Lisa. It was so nice to receive your review! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and for the recommendation!! We were more than happy to take care of those little extras that you mentioned, during the windshield replacement, on Saturday, and we’re so happy that the Reddit reviews are what made you choose us! All the best! - the team at Van Isle Glass
